2024 Edition

The main prize in the PTM competition for the best dissertation in materials engineering for 2023 was awarded to:

Lukasz Pawlowski, Ph.D., from the Gdansk University of Technology

Dissertation title: smart composite coatings for titanium implants

Dissertation supervisor: Prof. Andrzej Zieliński, D.Sc.

Honorable mentions were awarded to:

- Adrian Radoń, Ph.D., Silesian University of Technology (“Shaping of physicochemical properties of magnetite nanoparticles by means of selected methods of modification of their structure, shape and surface”; supervisor: Rafał Babilas, Ph.D., Professor of Silesian University of Technology, assistant supervisor: Katarzyna Cesarz-Andraczke, Ph.D.);

Dissertation title: Massive metallic glasses on Zr matrix with high oxygen content doped with rare earth metals.

COMPETITION RESULTS EDITION 2023

2022 Edition

The PTM Board of Directors awarded two equal prizes for the best dissertation in materials engineering for 2021 in two categories:

- from a scientific monograph,

- from a scientific output (based on a series of publications).

The winners of the competition were:

- in the scientific monograph category: Izabella Kwiecień, PhD, from the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow. The title of the work: “Diffusion phenomena at the interface zone of Al1050/Ni201 explosively welded clads”. Dissertation promoter: Joanna Wojewoda-Budka, Ph.D., professor, Polish Academy of Sciences. Associate Promoter: Dr. Piotr Bobrowski, Eng;

- In the publication series category: Maria Wątroba, Ph.D., from the Stanislaw Staszic Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Krakow. Title of the paper: “New bioresorbable zinc alloys for biomedical applications”. Dissertation supervisor: Prof. Piotr Bała, D.Sc.

In the scientific monograph category, honorable mentions were awarded to:

- Kamil Gancarczyk, PhD, from Rzeszów University of Technology. The title of the work: “The perfection of the crystal structure of the CMSX-4 nickel superalloy monocrystals and its effect on the mechanical properties at high temperature”. Dissertation supervisor: Prof. Jan Sieniawski, D.Sc;

- Krystian Zyguła, Ph.D., of the Stanislaw Staszic Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Krakow. Dissertation title: “Heat-mechanical plastic processing of titanium alloys of the Beta group obtained from elementary powders”. Dissertation supervisor: Marek Wojtaszek, Ph.D., professor of AGH.

In the publication series category, honorable mentions were awarded to:

- Milena Leszczyńska, PhD, from the Warsaw University of Technology. Dissertation title: “Rigid polyurethane foams obtained using renewable raw materials”. Dissertation supervisor: Joanna Ryszkowska, Ph.D., professor of Warsaw University of Technology;

- Marcin Wekwejt, Ph.D., from the Gdansk University of Technology. Dissertation title: “Modification of bone cement to achieve long-term antibacterial protection”. Dissertation promoter: Prof. Andrzej Zieliński, D.Sc. Associate promoter: Anna Michno, MD.

- Aleksandra Kozlowska, PhD, from the Silesian University of Technology. The title of the work: “Effect of temperature on strain-induced martensitic transformation in high-strength multiphase steels”. Dissertation supervisor: prof. dr. hab. Adam Grajcar;

- Mateusz Kopeć, Ph.D., of IPPT PAN. Dissertation title: “Hot stamping of titanium alloys”. Thesis promoter: Dr. Liliang Wang.

2020 Edition

The PTM Board of Directors has awarded the prize for the best dissertation in materials engineering for 2019 to Justyna Witkowska, PhD, of Warsaw University of Technology. The thesis title: “Surface modification of NiTi shape memory alloy in low-temperature plasma in the aspect of applications for cardiac implants”.

The Board of Directors of PTM has awarded the prize for the best dissertation in materials engineering for 2018 to Dr. Lukasz Maj from IMIM PAN in Krakow. The title of the work: “Characterization of titanium alloy links fabricated using Ni/Al and Ti/Al multilayer films”.

The PTM Board awarded the prize for the best doctoral thesis in the field of materials engineering for 2017 to Dr. Anna Wójcik from IMIM PAN in Kraków. Thesis title: “Structure and inverse magnetocaloric effect in Ni-Co-Mn-Sn-Me (Me=Fe, Cu, Si) Heusler alloys”.

Katarzyna Stan-Głowińska from the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków. Thesis title: “Preparation and characterization of Al-Mn-Fe base alloys strengthened with quasicrystalline particles”.
